are four basic variations of the Fury body: Drivetrain Almost any other four-cylinder engine can be used in the Fury, as well as some V6s and the lightweight Rover V8. In the U.K., the most popular engine donor for those on a budget is the old RWD (not sold in the U.S.) Ford Escort. Other possibilities include Pinto, Fiat, or Alfa Romeo 4-bangers and the Ford Zetec, which is available in 2.0L form in the U.S. model Ford Focus. The Toyota 4AG 1.6L twin cam is a likely candidate for U.S. Furies, as it was widely available matched to a lightweight RWD 5-speed gearbox in mid-'80s Toyota Corollas. Newer, Japanese market versions of these engines are available and cheap from West Coast importers. The 4AG is an excellent basis for hot-rodding, with outputs of up to 220HP @ 10,000RPM achievable. Even higher power levels are possible with forced induction, using OEM parts from the supercharged MR2. High performance motorcycle drivetrains are a natural fit in the Fury. A bike engined version can weigh as little as 900 lbs, giving a stunning power to weight ratio and sub-four second 0-60 acceleration. Fisher offers Honda Fireblade and Blackbird, and Suzuki Hayabusa engine options. Of course, attached to every motorcycle engine comes a close ratio, sequential six speed gearbox perfectly matched to the powerband. It's a hard combination to beat if pure performance is your goal. |
